Lord of the Rumors: Universal Planning a 'Middle Earth' Expansion to Their Theme Park?

Universal is going to be a very sad panda when Disney finally gets the rights back to build Marvel attractions in Florida. Perhaps because of this, it looks like Universal is looking to expand its attractions with a very different set of blockbuster movies. According to an anonymous source, Universal and Warner Bros. may have already approached the Tolkien estate about bringing Middle Earth to the Islands of Adventure.

Watch George R.R. Martin Decide Which 'Lord of the Rings' or 'Game of Thrones' Characters Would Win in a Fight

Who would win in a fight, Gimli or the Mountain? These are the questions that keep me up at night. Luckily, MTV Geek somehow convinced George R.R. Martin to participate in what they're calling "GRR vs JRR," matching up characters from each of the fantasy series. Outside of an actual crossover movie (omg yes), this is probably as close as we're going to get to figuring out if a Warg could kill a Direwolf.

Guest Post: The 10 Highest-Grossing Box Office Film Franchises… Ever

This lovely post was brought to you courtesy of our friends at Vue Cinemas.

Movie lovers of all ages have flocked to the cinema to watch film franchises for decades. Here’s a rundown of the 10 highest-grossing film franchises ever…

Toy Fair: LEGO Debuts Avengers, Lord of the Rings, Deadpool, and DC Sets

LEGO will never stop being cool, and with a few new sets making their debuts at Toy Fair 2012, they've just gotten that much cooler. The Avengers isn't too surprising considering the scale of the movie, but Lex Luthor, Lord of the Rings, and... Deadpool? Amazing. Check out some pics from the event below.

'The Lord of the Rings: Live In Concert' Coming to the West Coast

In celebration of the film trilogy's upcoming ten year anniversary, 'The Lord of the Rings: Live In Concert' will finally be making its way to the west coast states. The live, full orchestral performance of Howard Shore's scores is kicking off its tour with ten shows, set to feature the music of the first film, The Fellowship of the Ring. The show features a feature length, digital presentation of the film on a 60 foot screen while the Munich Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Chorale and the Phoenix Boys Choir perform the score live. It originally premiered in 2009 in New York, so it's a pretty awesome opportunity to finally get a chance to hear the music performed live. Read on for a full list of the concert tour stops and dates.

Lord of the Rings Online Goes Free-To-Play, Doubles Revenue

For those of you who don't know, Lord of the Rings Online, the MMO based on the LotR franchise, recently went free-to-play, subsisting off of micro-transactions, much like Dungeons and Dragons Online before it. Which is appropriate considering that both games were taken over by Turbine games, which reported at GDC Online 2010 that the game (LotRO, not D&DO) has since doubled it's revenue, according to an article over at Joystiq.

Lord of the Rings: The Theme Park?

I'll admit, I often get unreasonably excited at the prospect of a new theme park, even if it's one I'll probably never be able to visit. Regardless, I still think this news is pretty cool. Apparently Universal Studios has been testing the water for a new LotR theme park through email surveys. Check out the pitch below.

Two New LotR: Conquest Videos

Wait... what?? 0.o

To be honest, I'm at a bit of a loss for words here. When this game first got announced, I had some pretty high hopes for it. I really enjoyed Star Wars: Battlefront II, for all its flaws, and was very much looking forward to Pandemic's rendition of the LotR universe. Unfortunately, what I'm seeing here does not inspire confidence... check out the trailers and some of my thoughts below.
